Mangraves, Pillars & Parables

500 x 500 x 850mm

Taxidermy(Australian Forest Raven), glass, leather, brass, white agate, polyurethane, wood, clay, salt

2021

An omen of death, the Raven watches over salt-crusted mangrove roots that portray a dying hypersaline ecosystem. Guarding healthy water she accuses us of this growing catastrophe.

Presenting a symbolic salt crystal, she warns that by ignoring the mangroves' health, a critical pillar of our ecology, we will make ‘Mangraves'.

The Mangrave parable is currently being written. The St Kilda Mangroves are in dire need of our help to rectify a man-made affliction. They are the lungs of our city, their current damaged state a call to action.

A moral balance between ecology and enterprise is overdue.
