Tessa T4 3-seater lounge
An iconic Australian manufacturer and furniture piece.
There is a nice story behind the restoration of this lounge. I was walking past a house with it sitting on the porch and complimented to owner who was in the front yard. He told me I was welcome to it as the op shop he had contacted wouldn’t collect it due to the state of the leather and he was about to cut it up the following day to try and fit it in his general waste bin! I was horrified and delighted all at once and made plans with him to return the following day to collect it.
A few joints needed to be re-glued but over all the lounge frame was in good condition. The main work to be done was the upholstery. I stripped the old leather covers and unpicked them to use as a pattern guide to cut new fabric. Green is my favourite colour and I found multiple end of roll off-cuts from a commercial upholsterer at my favourite resource rescue haunt. It was a great find as typically the narrow lengths wouldn’t be useful for a lounge, but for this design it was perfect! I loved the reupholstered lounge and was sorely tempted to keep it, but in the end it went to my Castlemaine shop space and on to a new home.
A much happier outcome than becoming hard waste. Some elbow grease and a little love wins again!
